California News: Anapol Weiss Files Complaint Against Super73 on Behalf of California Mom

By: Anapol Weiss

As reported in The Orange County Register, Los Angeles Daily News, and Marin Independent Journal, Anapol Weiss has filed a class-action lawsuit on behalf of a Fairfax resident against e-bike manufacturer Super73 Inc., alleging the company sells products that violate California e-bike laws by exceeding legal speed limits. The complaint, filed in Marin County Superior Court by Anapol Weiss attorney Patrick Huyett, seeks a refund for the affected purchaser, a judicial declaration that Super73’s vehicles are not legal e-bikes, and class-action certification.

The suit centers on Super73’s class 2 e-bikes, which are legally limited to 20 mph with throttle assist. The plaintiff, Hillary Whitman, purchased one of these e-bikes for her 12-year-old son. However, the bike was banned from his school campus and deemed illegal by local law enforcement due to its failure to comply with California regulations.

“There are many parents and community members who are concerned about the safety and legality of Super73’s vehicles,” said Huyett. “This issue has had a significant impact on families in Marin County and beyond, and we’re committed to holding the company accountable.”

The legal action follows mounting concerns from local police chiefs, who have warned against unsafe and illegal e-bikes marketed as compliant with state laws. Community leaders, including Marin County Supervisor Mary Sackett and the Marin County Bicycle Coalition, have voiced their support for the lawsuit, citing its critical role in promoting public safety.

Anapol Weiss, a nationally recognized law firm with extensive experience in consumer protection and class-action litigation, is proud to represent Whitman and others affected by this issue. “Ensuring companies adhere to laws designed to protect public safety is a key part of our mission,” added Huyett.
