Distracted Driving Facts and Statistics

By: Anapol Weiss

Distracted driving is defined as any activity that could divert a person’s attention away from the primary task of driving.

The CDC says distracted driving-related car accidents kill nine people and injure another 1,100 every day. Some experts believe the number of people injured or killed in car accidents will continue to grow as more and more people turn to their phones and other technology while behind the wheel.

The graphic below illustrates just how big a problem distracted driving has become.

It is important to remember that any and all driving distractions put drivers, passengers and pedestrians in harm’s way. Distractions are not just limited to texting while driving. They also include:

  • Eating and drinking
  • Using a phone for any reason
  • Talking to passengers
  • Grooming activities
  • Using a GPS system

Preventing distracted driving should be a priority for all of us. Find out how at www.EndDD.org or read more about Anapol Weiss’ commitment to driving safety here.
