A Lifetime of Legal Battles Against Dangerous Products

By: Anapol Weiss

Tracy Finken Magnotta, Anapol Weiss Women’s Health Ligitation Team

I Have Spent My Career Holding Companies Accountable for Marketing Unsafe Products and Failing to Disclose the Serious Risks to Consumers

However, time and again, we see these companies prioritizing profits over safety. Billion-dollar products are marketed without proper warnings and the result is often catastrophic. Over the past 25 years, I have been passionate about representing women and children for the life-changing injuries they have sustained and seeking accountability from those companies that were responsible.

My motto has always been to treat my clients as if they were members of my own family. I began my career representing women who developed very serious pulmonary and valvular heart conditions as a result of taking diet drugs that were promoted as safe for their intended use. Over the years, I have represented and obtained hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements for women and children who developed serious injuries as a result of using:

  • Yaz birth control pills manufactured by Bayer, which caused in some women blood clots, including Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism; strokes; heart attacks; and gallbladder disease.
  • Fosamax for bone density, manufactured by Merck. Yet, in some women, Fosamax caused osteonecrosis of the jaw, a condition in which the jawbone begins to deteriorate and die.
  • Paxil antidepressant, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. When pregnant women used Paxil, infants were born with serious and life-threatening congenital heart defects from exposure to Paxil in the womb.
  • JUUL e-cigarettes, developed by JUUL Labs. Some teenagers developed serious and life-threatening lung injuries from using JUUL e-cigarettes, and many teenagers developed a serious nicotine addiction.

Currently, I am seeking justice and to hold the manufacturers responsible for women who developed:

And,

  • the families of premature infants who developed necrotizing enterocolitis from cow-based pre-term baby formula sold by Abbott and Mead Johnson; and
  • women and men who suffered injuries from Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic and Wegovy weight loss drugs.

Depo-Provera is the most recent case on my docket. The first complaint was filed on October 1, 2024, and our Women’s Health Litigation Team is actively working with women to prepare their cases. Depo-Provera is an intramuscular injection that was heavily marketed to women starting in 1992 as a form of birth control. A recent study indicated that women who took Depo-Provera were more than 5 times more likely to develop meningioma brain tumors. These are very serious life-changing injuries for these women.  Pfizer, the manufacturer of Depo-Provera, has admitted they knew of the risk. Pfizer warns of this risk in Europe. But yet they never warned women or the medical community in the United States, and now many women are facing serious harm from using this product. For this, they need to be held accountable, and I look forward to obtaining justice for these women.

UPDATE: On October 28, 2024, Tracy Finken Magnotta and other members of the Anapol Weiss Women's Health Litigation Team, filed a lawsuit against Pfizer on behalf of a woman who used Depo-Provera for a prolonged period and developed a brain tumor.
