Sol Weiss Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

By: Anapol Weiss

Anapol Weiss is proud to announce that its President Sol H. Weiss is among the recipients of The Legal Intelligencer’s 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Each year, The Legal Intelligencer selects a group of individuals who have helped shape Pennsylvania law. The publication presents the award to attorneys who have had a distinct impact on the legal profession in the state.

Weiss has been at the forefront of Pennsylvania civil law for more than 40 years. Since graduating from Villanova University School of Law in 1972, he has led major lawsuits locally as well as high-profile, national litigations. He earned a reputation as a modern day trailblazer in the creation and development of this generation’s mass tort litigation with prominent plaintiff leadership roles in Fen-Phen, Vioxx and countless other pharmaceutical and medical device cases. More recently, Weiss along with Shareholder David Senoff were among Lead Counsel in the Luzerne County Juvenile Civil Rights Litigation – known as the “Kids for Cash” cases. Settlements to date have exceeded $25 million for the juvenile victims.

Weiss along with fellow shareholder Larry Coben filed the first of the federal National Football League (NFL) concussion lawsuits in Philadelphia. As Co-Lead Counsel in the consolidated litigation, Weiss helped forge the nearly one-billion-dollar settlement for injured players. In April 2016, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit unanimously affirmed the settlement.

Weiss, who served for five years on the Executive Committee of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), has been honored with numerous awards by AAJ including the 2011 Presidents Award for Distinguished Service and its 2009 Award for Outstanding Trial Lawyer of the Year for his leadership and efforts in AAJ’s fight to overturn anti-civil justice Federal Preemption. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Association Foundation, a past president of the Eastern Pennsylvania American Board of Trial Advocates, and previously held various offices for the Pennsylvania Association for Justice. He has been a long standing member of the Villanova Law School Board of Consultors and was recently honored by the Law School with its 2014 Service Award.

“I owe this honor to my family and partners,” Weiss said. “Their sacrifices made this possible.”

Weiss and the entire firm thank The Legal Intelligencer for this exceptional honor.
