Women Representing Women: A Commitment to Empowerment A Journey of Advocacy

By: Kila Baldwin, Anapol Weiss Shareholder

I have been a trial lawyer for twenty years. It has been a long road, but one where I have learned many valuable lessons. Most importantly, I have learned to take on clients and causes I believe in. As a woman and a mother, I am most proud of my work representing women.

Fighting for Justice

Many years ago, I began trying cases on behalf of women who were catastrophically injured by transvaginal mesh implants. These implants were intended to address relatively minor conditions like stress urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse. However, for many of my clients, their lives were irrevocably altered by these poorly designed medical devices. They faced devastating impacts, including the destruction of their relationships, a loss of self-esteem, and an inability to engage in meaningful physical activity. As a woman, my heart sank for them, but as a trial lawyer, I felt an overwhelming drive to work harder for their justice.

Supporting Mothers in Need

In recent years, I have been fortunate to represent a number of women who have either lost a child or had a child severely injured during childbirth due to medical negligence. Again, as a woman and a mother of two, my heart broke for these women. Yet, I found myself more inspired than ever in my career to help those in such painful circumstances, as I could empathize with their experiences.

Empowering Women at Anapol Weiss

Since joining Anapol Weiss nearly two years ago, I have taken pride in the firm’s commitment to fostering a culture that encourages women to grow and succeed. While we have exceptional male attorneys like Larry Coben, Tom Anapol, and Jim Ronca, we also have an increasing number of women attorneys who are uniquely qualified to assist women in need. I am elated to witness our female attorneys shine and passionately advocate for the clients we represent.  Most recently, our firm has started representing women who developed meningiomas – tumors in the brain and/or spinal cord – from the use of Depo Provera (a form of birth control administered through a shot every 3 months).  Anapol Weiss remains committed to helping these women and all women who have been hurt by big pharma and the US healthcare system.
